Dog-trot

The Dog Trot model consists of a bedroom and full bathroom on either side of the cabin separated by a breezeway. It is said that this model got its name many years ago when home owners built the living quarters on one side and the kitchen/eating on the other so that if the kitchen happened to burn down the people would still have a place to live while they rebuilt. With the kitchen being separate the dogs would gather (trot ) in the breeze way sleeping and waiting for scraps.
